Gut microbiome

The gut microbiome is highly complex and consists of a vast number of microorganisms, primarily bacteria. It's a networked organ connected to various parts of the body and can thus have a significant impact on health and well-being.

, NL-Lab is C-FISH able to fully measure the gut microbiome and identify it correctly with 96% accuracy. This provides better insight into the situation and what can be done to restore balance.

We offer gut microbiome research for:

Gut microbiome studies for individuals

As a private individual, you can also request tests to gain insight into your microbiome.

To purchase our packages without a practitioner with a recommendation in the report:

  • Gut Balance
  • Gut Balance Complete
  • Extensive parasites
  • Yeasts & molds

Are you interested in the gut microbiome tests for practitioners on this page? (these are much more extensive).

Contact us, and we will send you a number of options for practitioners who offer these tests.

Gut microbiome studies for healthcare providers

Our assessments are suitable for all healthcare professionals (doctors, therapists, dietitians, coaches, etc.) who focus on nutrition and health. They can use our easy-to-understand reports and practical therapeutic advice to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan.

We also offer a free consultation for assistance with interpreting your client/patient's report.

Dysbiosis packages

Traditional dysbiosis research only indicates whether the gut microbiome is in balance (eubiosis) or out of balance (dysbiosis). At NL-Lab, we have developed an improved dysbiosis model. Our model recognizes four different types of dysbiosis, each with its own characteristics and potential treatments.

These affordable packages are very suitable as an initial inventory of the intestinal microbiome or for monitoring over a longer period.

PRO-Dysbiosis

This package provides insight into whether the gut microbiome is in balance, based on the two largest groups of bacteria in the gut microbiome. If there is an imbalance (dysbiosis), you will receive information about the type of dysbiosis, the degree of dysbiosis, the sample characteristics, and treatment recommendations for that specific type of dysbiosis.

The general gut microbiome packages

As a practitioner, you want the most complete analysis possible for your patient/client. We offer this with our PRO-Expert and PRO-Master. At NL-Lab, we look not only at the numbers but also at the activity of bacterial groups.

PRO Expert

With this package, we not only look at digestion parameters but also include various bacterial groups (including Akkermansia and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii).

With this examination, we also provide an indication of sensitivity to various complaints and conditions such as IBS, SIBO, and Type 2 Diabetes

In addition, we provide insight into the role of the gut microbiome in: probiotic function, mucus function, intestinal membrane protection, intestinal wall permeability, and potential inflammation of the intestinal wall (sIgA, calprotectin).

In addition, butyrate production, LPS production, and sulfate reduction are measured.

PRO-Master

Our most comprehensive package offers, in addition to the Pro Expert package, even deeper insight into bacterial groups, group activity, intestinal membrane protection, intestinal wall permeability, and potential inflammation of the intestinal wall.

In addition, oxalate reduction, histamine, bile acids, and an additional indication for conditions such as ME/CFS, kidney stones, and asthma are included.

Mind & Microbiome package

To be requested by practitioners and therapists, mental health psychologists, and lifestyle physicians

The analysis can be used as additional support within existing treatment pathways. Based on the report, you gain insight into the potential role of the gut microbiome in your client's mental health issues.

The gut-brain axis

Mental health issues are often approached from the perspective of behavior, cognition, and symptoms, while an important biological layer remains underexposed. The gut microbiome plays a direct role in the regulation of neurotransmitters and, consequently, in mood, stress, sleep, and cognitive functioning.

The Mind & Microbiome Package provides insight into these underlying processes. By making disruptions in the gut ecosystem and neurotransmitter production visible, an additional framework is created that helps to deploy treatments in a more targeted, effective, and sustainable manner.

The specific gut microbiome studies

These studies focus on a specific part or function of the gut microbiome.

These studies can be ordered separately or as a supplement to other gut microbiome packages.

Extensive parasite research

If you experience recurring intestinal complaints, there's a good chance a parasitic infection is the cause. Our research is the most comprehensive parasite study available and identifies the 16 species responsible for over 95% of parasitic intestinal infections worldwide.

Quality of digestion

Complete insight into the quality of digestion. This test is suitable for (suspected) osmotic diarrhea, steatorrhea, pancreatic insufficiency, and impaired liver function. The test includes determination of fat, carbohydrate, protein, and water content, as well as pancreatic elastase in the stool.

Gluten sensitivity

Provides an indication of food intolerance, specifically celiac disease. The test includes determination of anti-transglutaminase, anti-gliadin, and histamine levels.

Yeasts & Molds

This kit tests for elevated yeast and/or mold levels and their activity. The possible presence of Candida albicans and Aspergillus is specifically noted in the report.

Bowel-related disorders

Our PRO-Expert and PRO-Master packages include additional studies that map the influence of the gut microbiome on gut-related disorders.

This concerns conditions that are directly related to the intestines (proximal conditions such as IBS, leaky gut, colic) and conditions that run across the various intestinal axes (distal conditions such as depression, asthma, eczema).

Note: These tests provide insight into the possible contribution of the gut microbiome to the development or maintenance of a specific condition. The test result is an indication, not a diagnosis, and must be assessed by the treating physician.

The gut-related disorders

  1. SIBO
  2. Type 2 diabetes
  3. Colic
  4. Leaky gut
  5. Obesity
  6. IBS
  7. Crohn's/Colitis
  8. ADHD
  9. Asthma
  10. COPD
  11. Depression
  12. Eczema
  13. Hypertension
  14. ME/CFS
  15. Kidney stones
Numbers 1 through 7 are included in the PRO-Expert package. Numbers 1 through 15 are included in the PRO-Master package.
